The roots of Verdiroc stretch back to the Greenwin Construction Company, which was first founded by Lipa Green and Arthur Weinstock to build single-family homes. Lipa's son, Harold Green, who had learned the trade of bricklaying as a teenager, began managing the company's construction division in the early 1950s. At this time, Don Mills was a fledgling development – Canada's first master-planned community, where the developer retained control over all aspects of the project. While many builders at the time resisted this notion, Greenwin accepted it.
